4 reasons to prefer Melides over Comporta according to 'Le Figaro'
The French newspaper 'Le Figaro' (Lauriane Gepner) described Melides in a very interesting article, unraveling the 4 main reasons why Melides eventually could be prefered over Comporta. Let's dig into the article and recap.
According to 'Le Figaro' the first reason to send more likes to Melides is due to its taste of tradition you undeniably encounter when you visit the place. The quietness of the town contrasts with the worldliness and sophistication you see present and growing up north in Comporta. If you want to eat traditional food like the locals do, you find a few restaurants, no luxury, just honesty on a plate, like it has been for decades.
Second reason to leave Comporta for what it is, at least for a day, is the 20 kilometers of savage beaches you can discover in Melides. Deserted beaches without fancy bars you have to put an effort in to reach, but it's so satisfying once you get there; look to the left, look to the right, all you see is beach and a glimpse of the Serra of Arrabida.
If you are not impressed enough, stop at the Lagoon of Melides, third reason to be converted, with its ricefields and traditional houses surrounding it. You can (not) get lost on little dustroads, see the storks looking for food up close and feel the fresh seabreeze on your face. If you want to do it by horse, go to Passeios no Cavalo, and you can - since recently - order a pick-nick at caterer TwoPack...Last summer you could take a Yoga Class (Baraza yoga) at the lagoon and eat something from a hipster Foodtruck (Ruda): There was even a Pizza Foodtruck in the centre of the village. Something's happening in Melides, but it's still the slow life experience that's getting more and more unique as the world keeps turning faster and faster. While slowly enjoying the pureness of this town, there is something to be discovered on the art front. Reason number four nominates Melides as artist's fertile soil. For a few years Melides Art has been drawing international attention and is still developing in a unique way. Undoubtedly a project to follow that will attract interesting artists and will influence the area to develop on a more cultural trend.
