Melides is #3 on CN Traveller's top destinations list for 2021

Right in between the United Arab Emirates and Yorkshire England, Melides shines bright on the top-21 destinations list for 2021, put together by Conde Nast Traveller Magazine. Bronze on the Olympic platform of touristic places-to-be. How did that happen?

Comporta has been considered a hotspot for at least a decade. Carvalhal (where Quinta da Comporta is found) and Muda (where Sublime Hotel resides), two small towns south from Comporta (and north from Melides) have been adopted by the hotspot, it’s all referred to as Comporta. Carvalhal? Huh? Muda? Never heard off...

But not Melides. Melides is not Comporta. Northern Europeans have been feverishly whispering its name for a few years now. Melides…sssssst. The still undiscovered, very different, neighbour.

In Melides, the plots are big, 5 hectares is considered to be small. In Melides you can witness the most beautiful horizon overlooking sea and lagoon, up in the mountains (Serra) surrounding the town. If you are not in the mountains, the dry flat land gives you a hint of Africa. You can get heavenly stuck in a dust road traffic jam caused by a herd of sheep. Your jeep’s motor roaring, the sheep bleating…that’s the soundtrack of it all.

The future has a lot in store for Melides. Many would like it to stay just as it is. Others welcome the change. We can only hope it will evolve with respect for its local people and culture. With gentle care for its pure and precious nature and through sustainable projects.
